The preparations for the Florenc21: Phase West build on the participation process carried out during the Urban Design Competition Florenc21.
Key stakeholders were involved in the preparation of the Framework Brief, facilitated by the establishment of a steering and working group that brought together local authorities, site investors, and representatives from organizations such as Prague Public Transit Company, National Heritage Institute and Technical Road Administration. A consulting group, comprising companies, associations, cultural, and educational institutions operating in the Florence area, was also involved in the preparation.
The primary goal of this participation process is to explain the connection with the Florenc21 project and the master plan, present the results achieved so far in collaboration with the public and stakeholders, and clarify the process of four parallel architectural competitions.
Once the competitions are concluded, the results will be presented to the public and key stakeholders.
The public had the possibility to influence the results of the competition in two phases. In the spring of 2021, people’s perceptions of the values and problems of today’s Florenc were collected. All observations were summarized in the "Site Information" publication that was provided to the competition participants before the 1st Competition Workshop. The observations formed a part of the information set used by competition participants when developing their proposals.
In the autumn 2021, a public consultation of the competition proposals took place before the final meeting of the competition jury. All comments were summarized in a report, which was provided to the competition jury as one of the bases for proposals evaluation and the selection of the competition winner.
The report on public engagement in the competition preparation process and the report from the public consultation on the competition proposals can be downloaded below.
The consultation group was composed of companies, associations, cultural or educational institutions operating in the competition's area, as well as experts with an interest in the development of the site. The consultation group was assembled based on nominations by the working and steering groups responsible for the competition's preparation and included around 50 organizations or individuals.
The consultation group reviewed the "Site Information" publication, prepared for the competition participants by the working group as the main competition document.
On 17 May, 2021, a public debate took place at the Center for Architecture and Metropolitan Planning / IPR Prague, aimed at introducing the main topics of the urban design competition and discussing the development of the Florenc transformation area. The debate featured city representatives, competition organizers, jury members, and experts, with online viewers able to ask questions.
On 1 December, 2021, a public event at the Center for Architecture and Metropolitan Planning / IPR Prague presented the winning proposal of the Florenc21 urban design competition by UNIT architekti, A69 – architekti, and Marko & Placemakers, along with the joint second-place proposals.
