Following the
development of the masterplan created in the 2021 Urban Design Competition, the
proposals for individual buildings were sought in four parallel architectural competitions. The site was divided into blocks and
architects for each block or its parts were sought. This diversity of building
forms and approaches will help to create a truly diverse and attractive neighbourhood,
while maintaining the highest contemporary standards of design and construction,
including advanced sustainability principles.
In total, 158 teams applied in the first phase, from which the international jury selected eight teams for each block phase two and final four for phase three in each block. Three competition workshops took place. At the first workshop, 32 teams participating in the second phase were briefed on the site, the requirements of the investor, the City of Prague and other stakeholders including the heritage protection authorities. At the second and third workshops participants presented their proposals and answered qutions of the jury, representatives of IPR Prague, the National Heritage Institute and other stakeholders present in the Working Group.
Working within site-specific regulations, architects had to design buildings that meet each block’s unique requirements while contributing to a coherent whole. Every proposal was required to actively engage with surrounding public spaces, creating
a functional, inviting neighbourhood that enriches Prague’s urban fabric.
